RCA Cartridge Magazine Loading

In 1958 RCA introduced a cartridge system called Sound Tape or Cartridge Magazine Loading, which looked like a jumbo-sized modern day audio Cassette. The advantage of this tape over Reel-to-Reel is convenience. The user is not required to handle the tape and thread the tape through the machine before use, making it a better user experience.

Despite its convenience the RCA Tape Cartridge format proved unsuccessful.

RCA released three Elvis Presley titles in this format: KPS-3127 Elvis Is Back!, KPS-3130 G.I. Blues and KPS-4027 Blue Hawaii.

RCA was planning to release Elvis For Everyone (KPS-4073) in March 1966 but did not, due to this format was phasing out. See Recording Information Sheets in Visual Arts folder.
