Elvis is heading to Miami for the taping of the Frank Sinatra TV Special

3/22/1960, Doug Kennedy/Miami Herald Staff: You’d never know Elvis Presley had been away. Thousands of screaming, weeping teenagers mobbed the downtown Miami FEC station to welcome back the singer-turned-sergeant-turned civilian. Elvis, shorn of sideburns, but dazzling in black and silver togs, got a less enthusiastic greeting in Hollywood, where a barrage of eggs and tomatoes kept him inside his private car. Details on Page 1B. (Note: the “We Dig Elvis” on the sign at center appears to have been added or retouched by the newspaper.)

3/23/1960, Bob East/Miami Herald Staff: Sorry, Elvis. Elvis Presley’s train was pelted by tomatoes when it passed through Hollywood Wednesday but things were all patched up at Elvis’ Miami Beach hotel Thursday when Lee Brunn, representative of Hollywood Mayor William G. Zinkil presented Elvis with a key to the city. What’s more, three Hollywood fans of Elvis apologized for the teenagers who threw the tomatoes. From left are Elvis, Ronnie Sineone, John Delia, John Deleo and Brunn.

3/24/1960, Bob East/Miami Herald Staff: Sheila Riddell, 6, thanks Elvis Presley for the guitar he gave her after missing her at the station Tuesday.

More to come, Stay Tuned!
