These are my collection of books used for Elvis’s movies. Some were written promoting the movies, while others were published before and used as inspiration for his movies.
– A Stone for Danny Fisher (1958) was the inspiration for King Creole.
– Charro! (1969) promotes the movie but strangely does not mention Elvis anywhere. This is the novelization of the movie.
– Chautauqua (1961) was the inspiration for The Trouble with Girls. In the insert, it mentions that the book has been acquired by MGM for film production in 1961.
– Flaming Lance (1960) was the inspiration for Flaming Star.
– Kid Galahad (1947) was originally written in 1936 and was previously filmed before Elvis’ version in 1962.
– Kiss My Firm but Pliant Lips (1966) was the inspiration for Live A Little, Love A Little.
– Pioneer Go Home (1959) was the inspiration for Follow that Dream. The book is as funny as the movie.
– Stay Away, Joe (1968) was originally written in 1953, and Joe is back from the Korean war. This paperback book promotes the movie but does not mention Elvis either. The movie is very loosely based on the book, which could be described as ‘politically incorrect’.
– Wild in the Country (1961) was inspired by the 1958 book The Lost Country. This paperback version promotes the movie and Elvis, who is pictured on the cover.
Best wishes, Jules Thibault
