There is uncertainty among fans about which artwork was originally used in 1960. The photo from the back of the original vinyl LP was repurposed for the reel edition…

Originally believed, the Elvis Is Back photo on the back of the FTP-1137 Pot Luck box, released in 1962, was originally thought to have been considered as the cover, but it was never used on any releases…

However, fans across United States through ElvisPresleyTapes website are saying they purchased and/or saw this artwork in record and tape stores…

Album Release: 1960

Tape Release: 1960

Elvis Is Back the first Elvis reel issued in Living Stereo.

RCA promoted the album and its tape and stereo configurations through record-dealer trade publications, consumer music magazines, and 1960 Living Stereo print advertisements…

The first reel edition came in a beige box, while the second edition came in a black box. Both editions must be taken into consideration when determining which artwork was used and when.

So far, no reel has surfaced showing the photo from the back of the Pot Luck box in a beige-box edition. This suggests that the reel with this photo was not released in 1960, but sometime later, in the early to mid-1960s.
