I’ve collected 8-tracks since they came of age in 1969. I bought a player, and my first tape purchase was the TV Special photo box. At the time, the sound was a revelation. My Record player was just a little $9.99 portable – very cool and space-age looking – and so easy to use. Not to mention it could go into the car… so I never looked back. People talk about a vinyl comeback, but like 8-tracks, it never really went away. So, to the last issued 8-track, the 1987 Elvis Presley Commemorative Issue: The Top Ten Hits, I was in. Being a fan of all media, I got into the CD craze as well, and still search thrift shops and swap meets, looking for the obscure. The tapes that made into this book are a culmination of a 50-year love affair with the format. When people ask, “How’s the sound?” — Well, like a 1972 Chevelle, of course!
Cheers! Frankie
